MD_DA540 Dry Whey - Western U.S. Report 16 - Released on April 22, 2021 The West saw a further increase in prices for dry whey, across the range and the mostly price series, this week. As the prices for dry whey have continued to push higher, contacts report that demand, domestically, is slowing. Demand for dry whey to export has been slowing as contacts report less congestion at ports and better access to shipping equipment, reducing pressure on exporters. Brokers report, even with the decreased demand, an ability to find purchasers on the spot market, due to tightness of inventories. Cheese producers are running full schedules, due to the current availability of milk. Despite this busy schedule, production of dry whey is below capacity as manufacturers focus production on higher whey protein concentrates and permeate.
