MD_DA540 Dry Whey - Western U.S. Report 29 - Released on July 18, 2019 Western whey prices slid lower across both the range and mostly price series. Despite U.S. industry exports being lower than last year, some contacts suggest demand has been steady. A few manufacturers say they can keep moving whey at a reasonable pace and control their inventory levels. However, others say stocks are building in both manufacturers¶ and secondary market warehouses. In addition, a few contacts anticipate some processors may shift away from higher proteins and whey permeate production into dry whey production. This move may add dry whey into the market, adding to the pressures already felt by processors from the ongoing African swine fever and trade issues with our largest trade partners.
