MD_DA130 South America Dairy Market Overview Report 3 - Released on January 16, 2020 After several weeks of dryness, moderate to heavy rains returned to the central/southern regions of South America. In general, these showers were beneficial to several corn/soybean plantation areas, increasing soil moisture. However, this wet climate hindered milk yields in a few farms mainly due to sanitary issues of some milking cows. In addition, some minor hauling issues were reported. Nevertheless, cases of mastitis are minimal across the main dairy basins and most dairy operations are running as usual, while most of the milk has been shipped on time. Having said this, milk/cream outputs are seasonally lower due to higher summer temperatures. Within the food processing sector, demands for milk and cream are very strong, but milk/cream volumes are less than sufficient to satisfy most of these needs, with the exception of bottled milk and cheese.
