MD_DA130 South America Dairy Market Overview Report 41 - Released on October 13, 2022 For the second consecutive report week, contacts' milk output expectations are more positive than not. Despite drought and warm weather, spring milk yields are expected to run somewhat parallel to last year. Uruguayan contacts say their respective milk yields are showing clear signs of a good start to the spring milking season. Reports from Argentina relay a record year for volumes of soybeans sold by farmers, although a good quantity went to export markets, namely China. CONAB expectations for Brazil's 2023 soybean and corn crop both outpace 2022, if conditions hold steady. A large share of Brazilian corn, like Argentine soybeans, is already spoken for by Chinese importers, as Brazilian and Chinese governments worked out a bilateral trade agreement earlier in the year. Dairy powder markets on the continent continue to move at a quietly steady to bullish rate. Whole milk powder remains firm, despite no price updates this report week. Skim milk powder market tones are a little more mixed. Casein contracting is still underway for the current quarter and upcoming year, but casein availability remains limited on strong global demand.
