MD_DA650 Nonfat Dry Milk - Eastern and Central U.S. Report 49 - Released on December 08, 2022 Central: Low/medium heat nonfat dry milk (NDM) prices are lower on the range and on the bottom of the mostly series. Spot market activity was slower this week, and as market participants prepare for next year's contracts, and winter holidays approach, not many expect it to pick up over the next few weeks. Availability is similarly open, but demand is slowing week to week. Mexican demand, which typically slows at this time of year, is quiet. That said, contacts say Mexican end users will likely be in search of NDM for fortification and other end uses, as milk output remains lower in parts of the country due to ongoing drought conditions. High heat NDM prices pushed lower on the top end of the range. High heat NDM inventories are not necessarily widely available, but current end user demands are not pushing processors to shift from low/medium heat NDM to high heat NDM. NDM market tones are uncertain. East: Eastern low/medium heat NDM prices are lower on the range and bottom of the mostly series. Eastern trading activity is and has been somewhat slow when compared to the Midwestern and Western regions. Laborer shortages are being reported from processors in the Eastern region. Still, supplies are somewhat available. End users are hesitant to enter the spot market, though, as end-of-year inventories are sufficient, and market actors are working on wrapping up contractual agreements for 2023. Brokers reported more offers being below the $1.40 mark this week, but end users remain in a necessity purchasing mode. High heat NDM trading activity did pick up somewhat this week, but prices were pressured lower on the top of the range. NDM market tones are quiet to slightly bearish. The DMN monthly average of the mostly price series for Central and East low/medium heat NDM during November was $1.4454, compared to $1.5290 in October. The DMN monthly average of the range price series for Central and East high heat NDM during November was $1.6070, compared to $1.6571 in October.
