PECAN PRICES PAID TO GROWERS ARIZONA, NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS (via Phoenix, Arizona) Deliveries by growers to delivery points of Improved varieties were light. Demand was moderate for good quality pecans. The season is finishing up, and overall harvesting is approximately 90-95 percent complete, and is expected to be generally done by the end of January or early February. Harvested quality has been variable. Prices on pecans were slightly lower. The weather forecast for the rest of the week calls for low temperatures in the mid-20s to upper 40s with highs in the mid-50s to low 70s. No precipitation is projected for the remainder of the week. Buying interest displayed by end users was fairly light for in-shell, gift pack use, and fairly light for commercial sheller use as shellers continue to utilize inventories on hand or make purchases from other production areas or wait for additional availability of nuts. Trading was fairly slow for in- shell and gift pack uses. Deliveries and purchases of Improved varieties mostly Western Schley were fairly light. Most growers are deferring making marketing decisions, opting instead to concentrate on harvesting and storing nuts for later sale. Prices paid to growers (from noon Thursday, January 10, 2019 through noon Thursday, January 17, 2019) at buyers delivery point or f.o.b. the orchard including direct sales to end users, cents per pound in-shell of generally good quality pecans in lots of 20,000 pounds or less unless otherwise stated.
