WESTERN REGION PECAN REPORT.

PECAN PRICES PAID TO GROWERS

ARIZONA, NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS (via Phoenix, Arizona) 


Deliveries by growers to delivery points of Improved varieties were fairly 
light. Demand was moderate for good quality pecans. The season is finishing 
up, and harvesting in the El Paso and New Mexico area is approximately 95 
percent complete, and is expected to be done by mid-February. Harvested 
quality has been variable.

The weather forecast for the next week calls for low temperatures in the low 
20s to upper 40s with highs in the mid-30s to low 70s. There is a 0-40 
percent chance of precipitation on Tuesday, February 4, and a 0-20 percent 
chance of precipitation on Wednesday, February 5.

Buying interest displayed by end users was moderate for in-shell, gift 
pack use, and moderate for commercial sheller use as shellers continue to 
utilize inventories on hand or make purchases from other production areas or 
wait for additional availability of nuts. Trading was fairly slow for in-
shell and gift pack uses. Deliveries and purchases of Improved varieties 
mostly Western Schley were fairly light. Many growers are deferring making 
marketing decisions, opting instead to concentrate on harvesting and storing 
nuts for later sale, with up to 50 percent of this season’s crop anticipated 
to go into cold storage.   

Prices paid to growers (from noon Tuesday, January 28, 2020 through noon 
Tuesday, February 4, 2020) at buyers delivery point or f.o.b. the orchard 
including direct sales to end users, cents per pound in-shell of generally 
good quality pecans in lots of 20,000 pounds or less unless otherwise stated.
