DC_GR310 Manhattan, KS Tue January 22, 2019 Kansas Department of Agriculture Kansas Hay Market Report Ground/Grinding alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central Tonnage: 7,064/4,784 Last week: 7,068/4,638 Last year: 9,818/4,531 Hay market trade activity is light. Demand has been moderate, especially from beef producers, although there seems to be more buyers than there is hay. There is hay available, however, the trick is trying to remain profitable when figuring the cost of trucking from where the hay can be found and the cost of hay itself. Despite the demand, prices have remained steady. Foggy, wet and muddy conditions has been the topic of conversation recently. Hay has been sold but moving it has become quite an issue. Adding insult to injury, another round of winter weather arrived over the weekend, compounding to the problem. If you have hay for sale, and/or need hay here in Kansas, use the services of the Internet Hay Exchange: www.hayexchange.com/ks.php.
