JC_LS164 Jefferson City, MO Mon Dec 10, 2018 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Northeast Missouri Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Sale F and T Livestock Market, Palmyra, MO 12/8/18 Receipts: 239 Year Ago: 224 Coordinated by: Northeast Missouri Beef Cattle Improvement Association in cooperation with Missouri Show-Me-Select Heifers, Inc, University of Missouri Extension, MU College of Veterinary Medicine, Missouri Cattlemen's Association, and Missouri Department of Agriculture. All Heifers in the sale have met minimum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight. They have also undergone a comprehensive health program, and were guaranteed bred to easy calving bulls, with many synchronized and artificially bred. Projected calving dates were given for all lots with the heifers expected to calve from mid-January thru April, with the majority due in February and March. The offering was screened for blemishes, muscle thickness, frame, body condition score (BCS), and disposition by a final screening committee comprised of official graders from the Missouri Department of Agriculture and USDA, then sorted into lots according to calving dates and body type similarity. A full house was on hand on a cold but sunny Saturday afternoon. Demand was moderate to good with the sale averaging 1880.00 per head on 79 lots. This was 238.00 per head lower than last year’s fall average. Replacement Bred Heifers: Medium to Mostly Large 1-2 1050-1400 lbs 2nd and 3rd stages preg 1700.00-2100.00 per head, several packages mostly reputation and including some registered heifers 1250-1400 lbs and Mostly 3rd period preg 2100.00-2450.00 per head, with a couple packages topping the sale at 2725.00-2800.00 per head.
