MD_DA340 Buttermilk - Western U.S. Report 24 - Released on June 16, 2022 Dry buttermilk prices were steady to higher. Trading activity remains somewhat quiet based on tighter availability. There is plenty of cream in the Western region, but there are also continued reports of struggles at the butter plant level due to staffing and/or supply chain shortages, among other logistical hurdles. Shortages of dry buttermilk are not expected to be alleviated anytime in the near term, as ice cream producers are seasonally busier and securing loads of condensed buttermilk. Processors are already faced with limits at the drying stage, and condensed skim remains their focus. Dry buttermilk market tones are akin to inventories, notably firm.
