JC_LS135 .. Jefferson City, MO Fri Apr 12, 2019 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle (week end 04-12-2019) Confirmed Sales: Week to date: 280 Last week: 280 Last Year: 80 ( These prices acquired from Missouri producers ) Trading from late last Friday through Friday morning remains light as producers are seeing steady to lower bids. Dressed Grid sales on Thursday traded steady to 1.00 lower with last week at 206.00-207.00 and Flat dressed sales 1.00 lower at 204.00. The direction of cash trade this week all starts with the Southern Plains as many yards need pen space with plentiful supplies at this time. On Wednesday the Southern Plains sold fat cattle at 124.00, steady with last week as Northern trade has been inactive for the most part. Once again in the Northern Plains blizzard conditions are in the forecast in the same areas that have been hammered by the previous weather. What seems to be in store is more mud, weight loss and more slaughter cows going to market. How will cattle be priced in the North could depend on the incoming storm as the Southern Plains have shown the inability to capitalize on the tight supplies in the Northern Plains. Boxed-beef prices have shown some interest from retailers to turn the cut-out higher this week, as on Thursday Choice closed .22 cents lower at 228.83 and Select closed .33 cents higher at 219.95 compared to last Friday’s close with Choice at 226.93 and Select at 220.28. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was estimated at 9.15 per cwt live, unchanged when compared to Wednesday’s value.
