JC_LS135 Jefferson City, MO Fri Nov 01, 2019 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle (week end 11-01-2019) Confirmed Sales: Week to date: 240 Last week: 240 Last Year: 160 ( These prices acquired from Missouri producers ) Trading from late last Friday through Friday morning of this week remains mostly light to inactive with dressed grid sales from late last Friday at 178.00. Light trade on Wednesday in the Southern Plains was mostly at 112.00, 2.00 higher than last week. With aggressive gains in boxed-beef, cash cattle, and underlying support in the CME cattle futures all continue to give support to the market. Packer margins remain large, and until the packer has a reason to see margins deteriorate through a declining beef market the packer will continue it seems to pay steady to higher money. Packers continue to see good buying and demand from end users. Boxed-beef values continue to run hard, with Select staring to see some big gains this week as the choice-select spread remains record wide for this time of year. Beef demand remains very good with retail adds still dominate in the circulars. Choice boxed-beef closed Thursday 2.13 higher at 232.18 with Select .85 cents lower at 206.49 with a Choice-Select spread of 25.69, compared to last Friday’s close with Choice at 225.44 and Select at 199.84. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was estimated at 8.81 per cwt live unchanged when compared to Wednesday’s value.
