Flat dressed sales on Wednesday were mostly 2.00 higher than last week with Grid dressed sales steady with last week at 203.00. Packers for the most part continue to play it calm on the waiting game as it looks like another late week trade for the fed cattle market. CME live cattle futures for the most part have been lower this week with all the delivery pressure this week. Live cattle deliveries this week have been active against the February live cattle contract. Packers seem to be dug in not wanting to pay any more than steady money with last week. Cash trade so far this week has been limited to small northern trade with asking prices at or above 126.00. Even though it’s still February usually a slow beef month boxed-beef values continue to hold in the mid of a long cold winter. Choice boxed-beef closed Thursday .37 cents lower at 216.07 with Select down 1.60 at 210.41 compared to last Friday’s close with Choice at 215.35 and Select at 211.17. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was estimated at 9.02 per cwt live, unchanged when compared to Wednesday’s value.
