JC_LS135 Jefferson City, MO Fri Oct 18, 2019 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle (week end 10-18-2019) Confirmed Sales: Week to date: 480 Last week: 400 Last Year: 160 ( These prices acquired from Missouri producers ) Trading from late last Friday through Friday morning of this week remains mostly light with Flat Dressed sales 5.00 higher at 175.00, with all other prices are from late last Friday. So far this week little has happen in the fed cattle market, some trade on Wednesday in Iowa had some live sales at 111.00. This could set the stage for a higher cash market this week. Packers should have good reason to keep chains moving as fast as they can with impressive boxed-beef prices as seasonal rally has started. With excellent beef demand and the benefit of excellent margins packers should keep harvest pace moving along and keep feed yards current. The market continues to look positive, but cattle feeders know that corrections can come out of thin air. Box beef values are stabilizing and starting to see seasonal strength, with retail adds heavily featuring beef with ample supplies and good domestic demand. Choice boxed-beef closed Thursday .17 cents lower at 218.11 with Select 1.23 higher at 192.60 with a Choice-Select spread of 25.51, compared to last Friday’s close with Choice at 215.66 and Select at 188.68. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was estimated at 8.83 per cwt live down .05 cents when compared to Wednesday’s value.
