MD_DA230 Fluid Milk and Cream - Central U.S. Report 22 - Released on June 01, 2023 Heat is starting to play a role in component level downticks. Areas in the upper Midwest and throughout the region are registering temperatures in the 80s and 90s. Still, some contacts in the upper Midwest say limited humidity and cool mornings are keeping milk production somewhat in line with previous weeks. Regardless, there is ample milk in the region. Bottling remains somewhat steady in the Midwest, while bottlers in the southern states of the region are edging orders down. Cheesemakers say there is more than enough milk to keep somewhat active production schedules apace. Spot milk prices ranged from $12 to $4 under Class III. Cream availability grew noticeably due to the holiday weekend. Despite some cream end usage plants, namely butter processors, running full schedules, other end usage facilities running lighter holiday schedules kept milk/cream handlers busy in trying to find destinations for cream tankers. Butter makers reported turning away multiple spot cream offers. Contacts expect that with upticks in Class II/Class III processing, seasonally, cream availability will begin to ebb in the near term. Corn planting is ahead of schedule in many areas of the region. The aforementioned limited rain/humidity has played a part in that, as farmers in the upper Midwest and elsewhere were able to get corn and beans in workable ground.
