MD_DA230 Fluid Milk and Cream - Central U.S. Report 39 - Released on September 29, 2022 Some Midwestern dairy farmers reported their August figures. They relay January through August milk checks are better than they have been for a number of years. Production, at least per cow, and components have been notably above the previous years' average, as well. All that said, milk availability is somewhat snug in the region for processing. Bottling demand from within and outside of the region (the Southeast) is pulling from the overall milk pool. Clearly, these next few days will not see as much milk/cream moving into the Southeast as Hurricane Ian's impact is currently taking place. Cheesemakers in the region continue to report somewhat tight milk supplies and a lot simply say offers have been muted these past few weeks. Spot prices this week were the same as last week's flat Class to $1 over Class III. Butter makers in the region say that cream opened up some this week. Reported multiples decreased on the lower end of the range. Still, more cream cheese, eggnog, and other Q4 holiday staples are being processed at likely their peak levels of the year for these next few weeks. Cream availability has been variant from one week to the next, and this week is no different. In the Dakotas, hay demand is strong, particularly for higher quality dairy hay, but third cutting was light, at best, according to reports. Wisconsin crop conditions and fieldwork are moving along somewhat smoother, as the strong rains two weeks ago gave corn some much needed moisture. Corn harvest in Wisconsin is within a few days of the previous years' timeframe. Price Range - Class III Milk; $/CWT; Spot Basis: 0.00 - 1.00 Trade Activity: Slow Midwestern U.S., F.O.B.
