BL_LS750 Billings, MT Fri Dec 7, 2018 USDA Market News Public Auction Yards Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 12/07/2018 Receipts: 1,370 Last Week: 2,351 Year Ago: 1,676 Compared to last week: The best test for steer calves was for 600-649 lbs which sold steady to weak. All other weights of steer calves were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed. Heifer calves 500-699 lbs sold steady to 4.00 higher. All other weights of heifers were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Quality this week was mostly average to attractive. Many calves were straight off the cow. Very few calves this week were fully preconditioned. Demand for feeders was moderate to good. Market activity this sale was mostly moderate. Weigh up cows were lightly tested this sale. The last comparable sales were to last Friday. Limited slaughter cows sold during the Blue Ribbon sale this week. Slaughter cows were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Slaughter bulls sold 2.00-3.00 higher in a narrow comparison. Feeding cows sold firm to 5.00 higher as packers and feeding buyers both showed very good demand for high quality cows. Feeder cattle receipts were 45 percent steers and bulls, 55 percent heifers; 36 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Offerings were 79 percent feeder cattle, 4 percent slaughter cows, 3 percent slaughter bulls, 13 percent feeding cows and cows returning to the country, balance bred cows, heifers, and pairs. Next sale will be Wednesday December 12th, 2018.
