MD_DA640 Nonfat Dry Milk - Western U.S. Report 8 - Released on February 20, 2020 During the current week, western low/medium heat nonfat dry milk (NDM) cash prices adjusted down, shadowing the bearish SMP pricing behavior at some auctions abroad, which is strongly related to the hysteria caused by the coronavirus in the markets. NDM values for Q1 and Q2 contracts also settled down in the domestic futures markets. Having said that, the major part of regional NDM manufacturers and buyers agree that the tone of the market is unsettled right now and will remain somewhat unsteady, at least for next few weeks. Encouraged by higher regional farm milk outputs, the production of low/medium heat NDM is ongoing, as large condensed skim milk volumes continues been balanced into driers. As this point, NDM inventory levels are steady to growing, while demands from bakers and cheese makers are described as fair/good. In the case of high heat NDM, prices are also down on very light trading. High heat NDM production is sporadic as most processors are focusing on low/medium heat NDM manufacturing.
