MD_DA530 Dry Whey - Central U.S. Report 9 - Released on February 28, 2019 Dry whey prices in the region held steady on active trading markets. Although some local buyers are finding deals out West, prices in the Central region were regularly reported from the low end of the range to the top. The divergence of the whey market has continued into the late winter. Some producers are finding eager buyers in the mid to high $.40s, but end users continue to receive offers in the mid to upper $.30s for interchangeable whey. Cheese production has slowed in general, as plant managers are pushing for inventory control. That said, whey is available, in some cases interregionally, and for buyers willing to pay freight costs, plenty is being offered from the Western region. Animal feed whey prices slipped, as more trades were reported. Dry whey market tones are bearishly steady. Some suggest whey is near to or at its nadir, and prices will soon steady or rebound.
