Non-Ambulatory Sheep and Goats Non-ambulatory sheep and lambs in the United States totaled 37,000 head during 2004 and 39,000 head during 2005. The number of non-ambulatory sheep one year old and older totaled 16,000 head in 2004 and 18,000 head in 2005. The number of non-ambulatory lambs less than one year of age totaled 21,000 head in both 2004 and 2005. The number of operations reporting non-ambulatory sheep and lambs totaled 6,700 in 2004 and 6,900 in 2005. In 2004 there were 4,800 operations reporting non-ambulatory sheep and 3,800 operations reporting lambs. In 2005 there were 5,000 operations reporting non-ambulatory sheep and 4,000 operations reporting non-ambulatory lambs. Non-ambulatory goats and kids in the United States totaled 36,000 head during both 2004 and 2005. In 2004, the number of non-ambulatory goats one year old and older totaled 16,000 head while the number of non-ambulatory kids less than one year old totaled 20,000 head. During 2005 there were 17,000 head of non-ambulatory goats one year old and older and there were 19,000 head of non-ambulatory kids less than one year of age. This report is released as a cooperative effort between the National Agricultural Statistics Service and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service - Veterinary Services. Data for this report were collected on the January 1, 2005 and 2006 Sheep and Goat Surveys.
