     Cheesemakers in the Midwest are reporting varying demand tones. Most contacts suggest sales
     are meeting expectations early in 2020. Others, particularly barrel producers, are concerned
     about market tones which are not helpful to their bottom line. Spot milk was widely
     available for those cheesemakers who are on the spot market. Reported spot milk prices are
     in a tight, discounted range of $2 to $3 under Class III. Contacts point out that some
     cheesemakers will not humor spot milk offers unless the discount is substantial. Cheese
     inventories are available, but not overly concerning at this time. Cheese market prices on
     Tuesday did, in somewhat dramatic fashion, what many contacts have expected in recent weeks.
     Block prices dropped while barrel prices increased, closing the large gap by $.1350 in a
     single day. Even though the price gap narrowed, markets are definitely on shaky terrain.
     Midwestern wholesale prices are up $.1925 for Swiss cuts, down $.0925 for process, and down
     $.0100 for all other types.
