HDR1012000150050502951500POULTRY PRODUCTION AND VALUE HDR2012000150050502951500POULTRY PROD. & VALUE SUMMARY NARRATIVE Poultry Production and Value by States, 1993-94 Value of Production and Sales Up 6 Percent The combined value of production from broilers, eggs, and turkeys and the value of sales from chickens in 1994, was $17.9 billion, up 6 percent from the $16.8 billion in 1993, according to the Agricultural Statistics Board. Of the combined total, 64 percent was from broilers, 21 percent from eggs, 15 percent from turkeys, and less than 1 percent from other chickens. Value of Broiler Production Up 9 Percent The value of broilers produced during 1994 was $11.4 billion, up 9 percent from the $10.4 billion in 1993. The total number of broilers produced in 1994 was 7.02 billion, up 5 percent from 1993. The 1994 average price per pound on a live weight equivalent basis was 35.0 cents per pound, compared to 34.0 cents per pound in 1993. Value of Egg Production Down 1 Percent Value of egg production in 1994 was $3.78 billion, down 1 percent from the $3.80 billion in 1993. Egg production totaled 73.9 billion eggs, up 3 percent from the 71.9 billion eggs produced in 1993. In 1994, eggs averaged 61.4 cents per dozen, compared with 63.4 cents in 1993. Value of Turkey Production Up 6 Percent The value of turkeys produced during 1994 was $2.67 billion, up 6 percent from the $2.51 billion the previous year. Turkey production in 1994 totaled 6.61 billion pounds live weight, compared with 6.43 billion pounds in 1993. The average price received by producers during 1994 was 40.4 cents per pound, compared with 39.0 cents in 1993. Value of Sales of Chicken Down 20 Percent The value of sales from chickens (excluding broilers) in 1994 was $77.4 million, down 20 percent from the $96.4 million a year ago. Prices averaged 7.6 cents per pound, compared with 10.0 cents in 1993. The number of chickens sold in 1994 totaled 201 million, up 2 percent from the total sold during the previous year.
