BL_GR310 Billings, MT Fri Aug 16, 2019 USDA Market News Weekly Montana Hay Report Compared to last report: Alfalfa hay sold fully steady this week. Good movement was seen for hay, especially in squares to move to Washington, and Idaho. Demand was mostly moderate for moderate to heavy offerings. Last Sunday saw a powerful storm across much of the south central portion of the state. Hail as large as baseballs were reported in some locations. Many portions of the Yellowstone valley saw reports of widespread crop and forage damage. Luckily, much of 2nd cutting in this region was already in the stack. Old crop hay continues to sell at slight discounts to new crop. Demand for grass continues to be good to very good. Much of this demand continues to come from Canadian buyers. Demand for straw remains good, however sellers are still haggling over price and no confirmed sales have been made. All prices below are new crop hay unless otherwise noted. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
