Still a little early to call it "Spring- like" but the sunshine does make it seem more bearable. Slaughter cattle markets remain positive again this week. Slaughter steers were quoted mixed from 2.00 lower to 2.00 higher. They averaged 120.06/cwt or .59/cwt lower than last week. Choice Holstein steers were quoted steady to 3.00 higher. Choice Holsteins averaged 83.83/cwt or .98/cwt lower. Choice slaughter heifers were quoted steady to 3.00 lower. Heifers averaged 116.13/cwt or 1.70/cwt lower than last week. Choice Boxed Beef closed the week at 229.09/cwt or 2.10/cwt higher than last week. Cattle futures for April closed at 129.72 or .62/cwt higher. June futures closed at 123.50 or 1.58/cwt higher. August futures closed the week at 120.02/cwt or 2.30/cwt higher than the previous week. Slaughter cows were quoted mixed from 3.00 lower to 3.00 higher for the week. Slaughter bulls were quoted steady to 3.00 higher on another light test this week. Holstein bull calves were quoted mixed from 20.00 lower to 20.00 higher for the week. Holstein heifer calves were quoted steady to 5.00 higher on another very light test. At the New Holland Dairy sale this week, Fresh Holstein cows sold steady to 100.00 lower on a very light test. Buyer attendance light. Demand moderate. Bred Holstein cows not tested. Not enough Holstein bulls for a market test. Bred Holstein heifers sold mostly steady to 100.00 lower on a light test. Open Holstein heifers sold mostly steady on a light test. At the New Holland Hog sale on Monday, Compared to last week, Slaughter barrows and gilts sold 2.00-3.00 lower with the exception of High Dressing colored hogs which sold 6.00-7.00 higher. Slaughter sows sold steady to 2.00 higher. Boars sold steady on a very light test. Demand moderate. At the New Holland Sheep and Goat sale, Compared to last week, a much heavier supply of sheep and lambs on offer. Slaughter Lambs weighing under 110 lbs traded 10.00- 30.00 lower on poorer quality receipts while heavier lambs traded steady to 10.00 higher. Demand good. Ewes mostly steady to weak. Prices slumped towards the end of the sale. Slaughter Kids traded mostly steady to 10.00 higher on a light supply. Nannies sold mostly steady with some weakness noted in heavy nannies weighing over 130 lbs. Bucks traded mostly steady with some firmness noted in Selection 1 bucks. Wethers traded mostly steady to 10.00 higher. Demand good. All cattle are sold per cwt, with the exception of dairy replacement cattle which are sold by the head. All hogs and pigs are sold per cwt. All sheep and lambs are sold per cwt on their actual weights. All goats are sold by the head on estimated weights.
