Slaughter cattle markets took advantage of this to remain positive again this week. Slaughter steers were quoted steady to 2.00 higher. They averaged 120.45/cwt or 1.03/cwt higher than last week. Choice Holstein steers were quoted steady to 3.00 higher. Choice Holsteins averaged 83.92/cwt this week. Choice slaughter heifers were quoted steady to 3.00 higher. Heifers averaged 116.25/cwt or 1.33/cwt higher than last week. Choice Boxed Beef closed the week at 226.13/cwt or 4.84/cwt higher than last week. Cattle futures for April closed at 129.67 or .12/cwt higher. June futures closed at 120.95 or .53/cwt higher. August futures closed the week at 117.17/cwt or .90/cwt higher than the previous week. Slaughter cows were quoted steady to 4.00 higher for the week. Slaughter bulls were quoted steady to a 1.00 higher on another light test this week. Holstein bull calves were quoted mixed from 30.00 lower to 60.00 higher for the week. Holstein heifer calves were quoted steady to 10.00 higher on another very light test. There was a feeder calf sale in Vintage this week. Compared to last month's sale, Feeder Steers sold mostly steady to 10.00 higher with steers weighing over 800 lbs selling 10.00-20.00 higher. Holstein steers sold mostly steady on a very light test. Feeder Heifers sold steady to 10.00 higher. Feeder bulls sold mostly steady on a very light test. Demand good to very good. Overall quality best for the year. Buyer attendance good. At the New Holland Dairy sale this week, Fresh Holstein cows sold mostly steady to weak on a very light test. Buyer attendance light. Demand light. Bred Holstein cows not tested. Holstein bulls sold steady to firm. Bred and Open Holstein heifers sold mostly steady. At the New Holland Hog sale on Monday, Compared to last week, Slaughter barrows and gilts sold 4.00-5.00 lower with the exception of the 300-350 lbs hogs which sold mostly steady. Slaughter sows sold steady to 2.00 higher. Boars not tested last week so no comprison. Demand moderate. At the New Holland Sheep and Goat sale, Compared to last week, Slaughter Lambs traded unevenly steady. Ewes mostly steady. Bucks mostly steady on another light test. Demand good. Slaughter Kids traded mostly steady to 10.00 lower. Nannies and Bucks traded mostly steady. Wethers steady on another light test. Demand good.
