This is getting to be a very regular weather pattern. It's also causing some concern about getting seed in the ground. We could definitely use some sunshine. Slaughter cattle markets could use some sunshine too. Slaughter steers were quoted steady to 2.00 lower for the week. They averaged 118.50/cwt or .37/cwt higher than last week. Choice Holstein steers were quoted mixed from 2.00 lower to 4.00 higher. Choice Holsteins averaged 83.25/cwt or .13/cwt lower. Choice slaughter heifers were quoted steady to 3.00 lower. Heifers averaged 115.17/cwt or 1.42/cwt higher than last week on another very light test. Choice Boxed Beef closed the week at 228.75/cwt or 1.82/cwt higher than last week. Cattle futures for April closed at 126.55 or .50/cwt higher. June futures closed at 121.45 or 1.10/cwt higher. August futures closed the week at 118.20/cwt or .83/cwt higher than the previous week. Slaughter cows were quoted mixed from 1.00 lower to 4.00 higher for the week. Slaughter bulls were quoted steady to weak on another very light test this week. Holstein bull calves were quoted mixed from 50.00 lower to 35.00 higher for the week. Holstein heifer calves were quoted steady to 20.00 lower on another very light test. There was a Feeder calf sale in Vintage on Friday night. Compared to last month's sale, Feeder Steers sold mostly steady to 10.00 higher on overall very good quality steers. Holstein steers sold mostly steady to 10.00 higher compared to a very light test last month. Feeder Heifers sold steady to 10.00 higher. Feeder bulls sold mostly steady compared to a very light test last month. Demand good to very good. Overall quality as good or better than last month. Buyer attendance good. At the New Holland Dairy sale this week, Fresh Holstein cows sold steady to 100.00 lower on another light test. Buyer attendance moderate. Demand moderate. Bred Holstein cows not tested. Not enough Holstein bulls last week for a comparison. Bred Holstein heifers sold steady to 100.00 higher. Open Holstein heifers sold steady to 100.00 lower compared to a very light test last week. On Monday, Slaughter barrows and gilts sold 4.00-6.00 higher. Slaughter sows sold mostly steady. Boars sold steady on a light test. Demand good. There was a Feeder Pig sale in Carlile this week. No trend was reported. At the Sheep and Goat sale, Compared to last week, Slaughter Lambs traded mostly 20.00-40.00 lower on a heavy supply of overall poorer quality offerings. A majority of lambs on offer weighed under 80 lbs. Demand moderate to good as we approach the upcoming Easter holiday. Ewes traded mostly 5.00-15.00 lower. Bucks sold steady compared to a very light test. Slaughter Kids traded mostly steady to 20.00 lower despite good demand. A heavy supply of kids weighing under 40 lbs on offer for the upcoming Easter holiday. Nannies sold mostly 10.00-20.00 lower. Bucks traded 20.00-30.00 lower. Wethers weak on limited comparable receipts. Demand good. Overall quality of receipts poorer than previous week. All cattle are sold per cwt, with the exception of dairy replacement cattle which are sold by the head. All hogs and pigs are sold per cwt. All sheep and lambs are sold per cwt on their actual weights. All goats are sold by the head on estimated weights.
