The slaughter steer market was a lot like the weather, hanging over your head and threatning but not really doing anything. Slaughter steers were quoted mixed from 1.00 lower to 3.00 higher. They averaged 111.65/cwt or .66/cwt lower than last week. Choice Holstein steers were quoted steady to 2.00 higher. Choice Holsteins averaged 83.44/cwt or 2,54/cwt higher than last week. Choice slaughter heifers were quoted mixed from 3.00 lower to 3.00 higher. Heifers averaged 106.40/cwt or 1.10/cwt lower than last week. Choice Boxed Beef closed the week at 213.15/cwt or .69/cwt higher than last week. Cattle futures for February closed the week at 126.52 or 1.55 higher than last week. April futures closed at 127.37 or 1.00 higher. and June futures closed at 117.45 or .25 higher. Slaughter cows were quoted mixed from 3.00 lower to 25.00 higher for the week. Slaughter bulls were quoted steady to 2.00 lower for the week. Holstein bull calves were quoted mostly ssteady to 30.00 higher for the week. Holstein heifer calves were quoted steady to 10.00 higher on a very light test. There was not a feeder sale reported this week. At the New Holland Dairy sale this week, Holstein cows sold steady to 100.00 lower on a light test. Demand light. Holstein bulls sold steady on a very light test. Holstein heifers sold mostly steady on a very light test. Open heifers sold steady to 100.00 lower on a very light test. At the New Holland Hog sale on Monday, slaughter barrows and gilts sold 2.00-3.00 lower on another very light test. Not enough slaughter sows for a market test. A higher undertone noted on the few sows offered. Slaughter boars sold steady on another very light test. There was a Feeder Pig sale in New Holland this week. Compared to last month, feeder pigs sold sharply lower on a light test. At the New Holland Sheep and Goat sale, Slaughter lambs weighing over 90 lbs sold mostly steady to 10.00 lower while a lighter supply of lighter lambs sold steady to firm on good demand. Ewes traded steady to 10.00 higher. Bucks steady. Slaughter Kids traded mostly 10.00-20.00 lower. Nannies traded mostly steady to 10.00 lower. Bucks traded mostly 10.00-20.00 lower. Not enough Wethers last week to trend today's market against. Demand good. All cattle are sold per cwt, with the exception of dairy replacement cattle which are sold by the head.
