TO_LS765 Kearney, NE Fri Mar 22, 2019 USDA-NE Dept of Ag Market News Wyoming and Nebraska Direct Feeder Cattle Summary Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 03/22/2019 Receipts: 1,293 Week Ago: 688 Year Ago: 1,691 Not enough comparable offerings for a market comparison. However a higher undertone was noted. Demand was very good this week for available direct feeders and cattle from area auction markets. With several postponed sales last week from the bomb cyclone, buyers were in the mood to procure grass cattle or true feedlot placements. Several auctions sold from 5.00 to 10.00 higher on most consignments of livestock. Feedlot sales very slow to take off this week. However, there has been a handful traded at 209.00 dressed in Nebraska! Bulk of the trade will take place sometime Friday afternoon as packers are laying low and don’t want to chase the market. Live cattle weights are less for week ending March 9th, than the previous week, live weights 6 lbs lower at 1344 lbs. With the continued drop in weights total fed beef production will stay below last year until weights increase dramatically. Direct prices are current FOB with a 2-3 percent shrink or equivalent, with a 10-25 cent slide on calves and 8-10 cent slide on feeders from base weight. Some lots sold with a two way slide. Delivered prices include freight, commissions and other expenses. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery. Receipts comprised of 31 percent heifers with 100 percent of the run over 600 lbs.
