Hop Inventory Down 9 Percent The inventory of hops held by growers, dealers, and brewers on March 1, 1996, totaled 81.4 million pounds, 9 percent below the amount on hand March 1, 1995. Hop production in 1995 increased 6 percent from 1994 to 78.9 million pounds. This is the highest production level since the record high 1981 crop. Brewers reduced their holdings from March 1 last year to 55.9 million pounds, or 69 percent of total stocks. This inventory represents a 4 percent decline from last year and the amount on hand in 1994. Dealers and growers stored 25.5 million pounds on March 1, 1996, compared with 31.4 million pounds held a year ago.
