MD_DA210 Fluid Milk and Cream - Eastern U.S. Report 23 - Released on June 07, 2023 Milk production is mixed in the Eastern region. Contacts have shared that there are areas where milk production has either plateaued or is declining from spring flush volumes. In the Northeast, farm level milk output remains steady. Class I sales are stable. Some schools remain in session, but there are plans for community centers and educational institutions to offer reduced cost meals for students over the summer. Class II sales are stable, as ice cream production and demand has increased as the weather warms. Sour cream and cottage cheese production is noted to be steady. There are steady milk supplies clearing into Class III production. Contacts have shared that cream cheese production is steady to stronger. Some contacts have relayed that cream supplies have tightened because of increased ice cream production, and some butter producers are selling surplus loads of cream on the spot market. In the Mid-Atlantic states, farm level milk output is stable. Some school release schedules are mixed. Class I orders are unchanged. Demand for other Classes is steady to stronger. In the Southeast and in Florida, milk outputs are flat. Demand for all Classes remains steady. Condensed skim is readily available for a variety of manufacturing uses throughout the region. There are several areas in the Northeast and in Florida where there has been little rain. Drought monitors report several areas in the East as abnormally dry for this time of year, with other areas being in moderate or severe drought. The DMN May monthly average for Northeast Class II cream was $3.1271, compared to $3.0219 a month ago. The DMN May monthly average for Northeast Class II condensed skim was $1.2523, compared to $1.2875 a month ago.
