MD_DA210 Fluid Milk and Cream - Eastern U.S. Report 36 - Released on September 04, 2019 Northeast milk production is mixed. In some areas, milk output is up, while in other areas, milk production is flat or down. Many market participants are analyzing farm milk supply and forage quality for the fall months. With Labor Day passed and Northeastern schools back in session, Class I orders are strong. Mid-Atlantic milk output is flat to lower. Class I and III sales are taking the majority of milk loads. Milk that would be transported to the Southeast is staying within the Mid-Atlantic currently. Southeast milk output is fairly level. There have been milk-cuts in parts of the Southeast due to Hurricane Dorian. Market participants relay utilizing manufacturing plants as much as possible currently. Florida milk output is lower. Class I sales are comparably down this week. Hurricane Dorian has made a huge disruption in the Bahamas, Florida and other states along the Atlantic coast. Market participants in Florida report Class I plants are closed this week due to the destructive storm. Milk is being transported to Class II and III operations. Market participants report they are working through this harsh week and are prepared for transportation and electrical issues in some areas. Cream is readily available in the East. Some butter operations are keeping up with current cream supplies. However, a few plants are at fixed schedules and have not increased churning. Additionally, some manufacturers are selling cream instead of churning. Multiples range 1.24-1.35 this week. Condensed skim market conditions are fairly steady. Milk separation continues to be strong with educational institutions receiving strong bottling orders. Manufacturers' condensed skim supplies are somewhat outweighing buyers' regular orders. The DMN August average for Northeast Class II cream was $3.2220, compared to $3.2332 a month ago. The DMN August monthly average for Northeast Class II condensed skim was $0.7886, compared to $0.7841 a month ago.
