MD_DA210 Fluid Milk and Cream - Eastern U.S. Report 49 - Released on December 08, 2021 Northeast milk production is relatively flat. Class I sales are firm. Class III demand is strong as cheesemaking remains active throughout the region. Milk output is level to higher off Mid-Atlantic farms. Steady supplies are clearing to Class I. Following several weeks of increasing output, milk production in the Southeast has flattened this week. Bottling sales are up, and Class II and III orders are level. Some handlers are working to secure milk spot loads from other areas as local supplies are said to be tight. Limited milk is available for manufacturing needs. Cow comfort is improving in Florida as temperatures dip lower, and milk output is steady to increasing. Bottling demand is healthy. Eastern cream supplies are said to be tight to extremely tight, and some dairy processors report very limited spot availability. Internal cream supplies are largely meeting the production needs of butter makers as holiday orders are wrapping up. Other cream-based operations are seasonally active. Recent reports suggest that regional cream cheese food service shortages are due to multiple factors, including logistics bottlenecks, labor issues, and supply shortages at manufacturing facilities. Contacts note, however, that production is running hard now and inventories are expected to start building for spring holidays immediately after the upcoming year end celebrations. Manufacturers are working through condensed skim agreements. The DMN November monthly average for Northeast Class II cream was $2.7692, compared to $2.4458 a month ago.
