MD_DA210 Fluid Milk and Cream - Eastern U.S. Report 41 - Released on October 09, 2019 Milk production is improving in the western and central parts of the Northeast. As one industry source proclaimed, "there's lots of milk." Manufacturers in areas further south report adequate to tight milk supplies. Class I sales are normal for this time of year. Condensed skim spot prices are up, higher than recent years, according to some processors. The Mid-Atlantic milk production volumes increased this week. Class I sales are good. Bottle demand pulls on milk supplies some manufacturers would like to have for their processing needs. Southeast's milk production remains down. Strong bottling demand is supported by milk distribution from other areas of the East and other regions. Manufacturing milk supplies are tight, with no foreseeable change. Weather has been hot in Florida, but rain is forecasted to move back into the weather pattern. Cooler temperatures are likely to promote cow comfort. Milk production is seeing a slight uptick, while bottling sales are mostly flat. Sources are not expecting a great change in sales until Thanksgiving. Buyers are having little trouble finding cream. However, apart from contracts, movement is slow. Cream suppliers inched the multiples higher, 1.27-1.33 F.O.B., relative to the lower butter price. The majority of cream spot sales satisfy Class II production, but the market is seeing interest rise for Class III needs. Condensed skim continues to trade at a premium in the spot market.
