In November 2019, sales rose 1 percent to 220 million pounds, from a year ago, but year-to-date sales fell 2.0 percent compared to 2018. In New England, Federal Milk Market Order 1 reports utilization of types of organic milk by pool plants. During January 2020, organic whole milk utilization totaled 11.5 million pounds, down from 15.2 million pounds one year earlier. The January 2020 butterfat content was 3.28 percent, the same as one year earlier. This week, total organic dairy ads at surveyed supermarket outlets increased 12 percent. Cream cheese ads increased 100 percent, with a weighted average price increase of 50 cents. Ad numbers dropped for organic butter, 1 pound; organic cheese, 8 ounce shreds; organic Greek yogurt, 32 ounces; organic yogurt, 32 ounces. The retail milk price spread between organic and conventional half gallon milk represents an organic premium of $0.93, a decline of $1.17 compared to last week.
