Washington, DC May 29, 2019 USDA Truck Rate Report WA_FV190 Provided by: Patty Willkie Phone: 202-365-6701 FRUIT AND VEGETABLE TRUCK RATE REPORT, WEEK ENDING TUESDAY MAY 28 2019 Rates quoted represent open (spot) market sales that shippers or receivers pay, depending on basis of sale, per load, including brokers' fees for shipments in truck load volume to a single destination. Extra charges for delivery to terminal markets, multi-pickup and multi-drop shipments are not included unless otherwise stated. Rates are based on the most usual loads in 48-53 foot refrigerated trailers from the origin shipping area to the destination receiving city. The ten cities of destination are Atlanta, Georgia; Baltimore, Maryland; Boston, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Miami, Florida; New York, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Seattle, Washington. A slight surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities: beans, cucumbers, eggplant, melons and mixed vegetables, peppers and squash from Mexico crossings through Nogales Arizona, carrots from Kern District California, celery, strawberries, cilantro, kale, and parsley from Oxnard District California, broccoli, strawberries, cauliflower, Iceberg lettuce, Romaine and Leaf lettuce from Salinas-Watsonville California, broccoli, strawberries, cauliflower, lettuce, Romaine, leaf lettuce and celery from Santa Maria California, citrus and avocados from South District California, and apples and pears from Yakima Valley and Wenatchee District Washington. A surplus of trucks was reported for the following commodities: onions, cabbage, oranges, and grapefruit from Lower Rio Grande Valley Texas, and limes, tomatoes, broccoli, mixed fruits and vegetables from Mexico Crossings through Texas. A slight shortage of trucks was reported for tomatoes, mixed vegetables, and melons from North, Central and South Florida sweet potatoes from Eastern North Carolina. All other districts reported an adequate supply of trucks. A First Report was issues for beans, cucumber, peaches, peppers, and squash from South Georgia.
