Some restauranteurs and retailers have pulled back on ordering. CME Group cheese block and barrel prices are tumbling downwards. Manufacturers are preparing for a decrease in demand from educational institutions. Cheese makers are receiving adequate milk volumes for strong cheese production schedules. Supplies are available and some inventory levels are growing for spot/contract needs. There are many uncertainties in the market. Industry contacts are waiting to see how the end of the week plays out for the cheese markets. In the Northeast, the wholesale cheese prices for both cheddar and Muenster dropped $0.2575. The process cheese prices decreased $0.0675. The Grade A Swiss price is unchanged this week. The DMN Northeast July 2020 monthly average price for cheddar blocks is $3.3030, compared to $3.0335 one month ago. Processed 5# sliced average price is $2.7499, compared to $2.5797 one month ago. This week, a cooperative export assistance program accepted requests for export assistance to sell 94,799 pounds (43 metric tons) of cheese and 597,453 pounds (271 metric tons) of cream cheese.
