     Cheese - Northeastern U.S.

     Report 36 - Released on September 04, 2019

     Northeastern bottling operations continue to receive heavy milk loads for their immediate
     needs. For the holiday, some Class III operations were shut down. Now, they are back up and
     receiving their regular milk loads for the week. Mozzarella and provolone production
     schedules are active. Cheese orders from pizzerias have picked up. Cheddar cheese production
     is strong as well. Cheese supplies are available in the East region. Cheddar cheese market
     trading activities are steady to higher. In the Northeast, the wholesale cheese prices for
     cheddar and Muenster are unchanged this week. The process cheese price shifted down by
     $0.0025. The Grade A Swiss price is unchanged currently. The DMN Northeast August 2019
     monthly average price for cheddar blocks is $2.4615, compared to $2.4213 one month ago.
     Processed 5# sliced average price is $2.1099, compared to $2.1394 one month ago.

     The CME Group August 2019 monthly average price for barrels was $1.7081, compared to
     $1.7343 a month ago; blocks¶ average price was $1.8791, up from $1.8180 a month ago.

     This week, a cooperative export assistance program accepted requests for export assistance
     to sell 1.025 million pounds (465 metric tons) of cheese and 478,403 pounds (217 metric
     tons) of cream cheese.
